How does everyone else do it?

I am a young mum of a 19month old and a 5 week old (both boys….arghhh!!) I don’t know how other mothers can do it. My day starts at 5 in the morning when I get up to feed the baby and get my husband organised for work. My day is constant until the boys are in bed. This is when I iron and fold the washing. Some days I’m up until 11pm just so I can get a few things done. And buggered if I know how other mothers manage to go anywhere with two kids. My newborn hates the pram, screams and screams until he’s blue in the face while he’s in it, which is terrible because we spent a fortune on the pram. I avoid going out during the day because of the hassle, and if I need something from up town, I just try and make do until my husband is home so he can give me a hand. My newborn is also alot more demanding than what my first son was at his age. He wants to be held constantly, the only time he is happy to be on his own is when he is asleep, I had to vacuum the house the other day while he was in a baby carrier. We have one of those baby swings, but he hates that as well. Because my toddler can see I am preoccupied with the baby, he turns the house upside down. Then I have to stay up late so I can fix and clean whatever he has attacked. It’s a never ending circle. I know that one day though, I will look back on it and love every moment of it!

Hi Missy, I am about to cry for you, that must be so hard what your going through! Many mothers would not understand what it is like becuase they either have 1 baby or 2 babies with a wider gap, which is much easier.
That must be so tough, how do YOU manage! I think it is important for all mothers to understand that parenting is MORE than a full time job. You should be very proud of yourself for all your achievments, your a champion missy for just getting through the day.
Advice, advice, advice the world is FULL of advice but unless anyone has actually been in your position they can not really help you. I myself have three darlings and my wife does a lot. Fortunately I work from home so I am able to be there for my wife and help here with different things. I am also able to take care of the kids and give her much needed time out.
If I were to tell you what has helped us a lot it would be 1) try to simplify your life & 2) don’t be hard on yourself. I know that sounds easier said than done but let me explain what I mean. Your first priority is the “peace” of your household, the more relaxed and calm you are the better your kids and husband will feel.
You need to take care of yourself, you need to have time for yourself and time with hubby. You need to live a normal life, yes even with those two darlings! So how can this be done?
Get a plan, a six month plan or a 12 month plan but get a plan. Try to work towards giving yourself free time and managing your life better. Please don’t take this as critsism. I still have not done this properly myself but I am getting there and it feels good when you acheive even part of the plan that you set out for yourself.
I have no other help for you at this stage, I am only a man lol, maybe sweety can chime in with some helpful tips for ya. I would like to finish with you are a champion missy, what you are doing is amazing! Your a gem keep up the great work, those kids are ultra blessed to have you and hubby is a very blessed man!

Hi Missy
Well to start out with your little one is only 5 weeks old so dont take this time as being how things will be forever. My first was like the easiest baby ever just did everything the books said he would. Then my second well man she started at the beginning of the hard parenting chapter and kept going she was up every hour on the hour for 7 months I WAS INSANE. She had colic relux you name it. And at the same time I had a 13month old so I really felt sick.
But these are some of the things that I wished I had done with my second. I wouldn’t have demand fed as when I stop doing that at 7 months and scheduled fed her she was so much more settled and actually slept. I would have let her scream a bit more as in leaving her in her cot so that I could vacum etc. Even if you just leave him for about 5 minutes you might be surprised that he will settle very quickly. Put him in the pram even though he is screaming and put the toddler in and go for a walk. Not only will you feel better but you baby will probably stop crying after a few minutes. I hate having my babies cry but I am now on my third and you start to realise that it is alright to let them cry a bit as you need your sanity as well.
Also I think because my kids were so close together that I wouldn’t compare my self to the mums you see everywhere who look like they have it all together.
Dont feel at all guilt for going for a drive when you hubby comes home. Have time out as much as possible.
I hope that I have helped. Jboy’s advise is very good and I totally agree with all that he has written.

Wow, I’m 25 and just started renting from a family with 2 young kids…Just to see what the mother goes through every day gives me a new respect for all parents. I don’t remember being that much of a handful for my parents, but then again, my parents would probably remember differently.

It is amazing that we dont remember what our poor parents went through. And before I had kids it was easy to judge others saying I was never like that but my mum has since told me I was.
